What could be the best thing to read n the notice board at the gate of a big corporate on Wednesday morning?? It read "Come if you want to, big screens are employed in the office, But you will not be given holiday for finale at Saturday." This was 30th Wednesday, 2011, when India takes on Pakistan at the semifinals of CWC 2011 for setting up the clash for coveted trophy at Wankhede Mumbai, on 2 April.
I have been following Indian Cricket since 1996 world cup, but I've never seen a hype either by an individual or by media like the one we all have been seeing since past 6 days. "India takes on Pakistan in the Second Semi-Finals at Mohali on 30th March- Arch rivals, mother of all battle, India's world cup final match, desh ka final, and what could an extreme cricket fan could can think of". These were the kinds of headline and statements produced at the center of news agencies.Statistics says, India never lost to Pakistan in any WC game, but, Jinx was greater on India- Pakistan never lost to India at Mohali, and if Sachin scores a ton, India's chances of winning decrease considerably, India never won a semi final in India...
Shouting India, India,.. India on each Pakistan wicket that falls, people engaging into all sort of religious activities like havans n poojas at various temples, ibadad at dargah, and a few among us talked about what he/she is gonna do if India wins.. Here are some real time promises or rather Oaths.. -
1. I will not smoke for a week if India wins..
2. Please be seated in the same position as you were as wicket just fell down- as if the sitting arrangement would crumbs the arch rivals..
3. I will visit temple on every Saturday to thank god for this empathetic win if India cruises
4. I will keep fast on Wednesdays till 30th March 2012 if India wins today..
....... n there are numerous bribe offered to the nature and Maker for India wins.
People made their own beliefs and probabilities with a vague idea of existence of any possibilities of occurring the event in accordance with the history. First time I found all the news channels covering a same set of news and updates about the match for more than 4 days. My satisfactory university result did not give me so much happiness as I was content and fulfilled by watching the final equation that came in the last over that was impossible to achieve for Pakistan. I realized, Cricket is one religion in India and we all Indians are crazy behind the sport. I laughed when I first read about Cricket Junkies who are too optimist, but 30th Wed, '11, I felt the same when I thronged in with an unknown bunch of people filled with passion and valor to shout "Bharat mata ki Jai" .
Above all, People from different parts of world were not deterred to Mohali for this epic clash. How I wish, what could be the condition of the security personnel at the host? Prime Minister of the two countries, entire political fraternity along with elite business class, celebrities, and those filmmakers who might not be bothering about Cricket but did come to watch the clash. It was like a war-black out situation on the most polluted roads when match was progressing, However, people forgot their stature, status, cast, religion, community, creed, and all those rules and regulations to come out on the road to celebrate the much awaited victory. It happened on a great scale on 1st March 2003, when Sachin smashed Pak speedster trio at Centurion park in WC '03 South Africa, It grew with more spice when India lifted inaugural T20 World Cup after bowling out Pakistan in the Final, but last meeting was grandest among all. Bookies rumours spreading the vibe of Pakistan winning, but yet, enchanting was clear, a simple question was made, lets see who wins, the spot fixers who spent billions of dollars, of billions of hearts praying for an ultimate pride.
The match would be the most anticipatory event I have ever faced in my life and the trance it has created will take a long period to die. Against all the odds, Blue came out of the disciplined execution of bowling and fielding that had never been the forte of Indians. I heard it correct in the morning - "Today, is the day, when history will be reborn, it will be recreated, legends will be cemented, and a few will come out as heroes as mother of all battles is set to take a charge." First time, I say, Cricket is a religion that unites and glorifies the entire India.
